Hand Grinding

You mean you grind all your coffee by hand? Well, I must confess: no, not all of it. There are simply some days that I want to wake up, push a button, and go. For those days I have a competent electric grinder that's been my off and on morning companion for nearly a decade: The Rocky (by Rancillio). However, when I have the time, there's no better grinding than a vintage --or antique-- hand grinder. Feeling those little beans (which you roasted yourself) crushed between two burrs propelled by the force of your own two hands provides the catharsis required for your successful first sip denouement!

Part II

As it turns out, there is better grinding than a vintage hand grinder...a modern hand grinder: The Pharos. No, not the seventh wonder of the world...but the state-of-the-art hand grinder that mates old-world technology with the latest in 70mm conical burrs. The Pharos was dreamt up by Orphan Espresso and has replaced all my other grinders (including Rocky which now sits on a storage shelf); it's that good: a work of art. You simply cannot get a better espresso grinder for less than $2k...
